Chabahar Port expected to open in a month: Afghan Consul General The strategic port of Chabahar in Iran which is being developed to build a transport-and-trade corridor through Afghanistan giving India an access to global markets is expected to be opened in a month's time, said Afghanistan Consul General Mohammad Aman Amin.

Fourth Multimodal Train Connects Turkey and Europe A fourth roundtrip train has been introduced to connect Germany’s Duisburg rail hub and the port of Trieste, Italy.
The combined transport service reaches destinations across Europe with Trieste connected to Turkey via six weekly sailings offered by Turkish shipping company UN RO-RO.

Gothenburg Port volumes Rise Freight volumes at the Port of Gothenburg rose by almost three million tonnes in 2016 - up from 38.2 million tonnes in 2015 to 40.9 million tonnes last year. Car exports-imports and energy products enjoyed a particularly successful year with rises of 15 and 12 per cent respectively. Container volumes were down three per cent. The freight figures for 2016 have just been released.

Last year, the volume of freight handled at the Port of Gothenburg rose by seven per cent to 40.9 million tonnes, compared to 38.2 million tonnes in 2015.

LNG market rebalancing to stall until 2020s, study says,-study-says.html The LNG market is expected to hit the bottom of a boom-bust cycle over the next five years, a report by Aurora Energy Research shows.

Poland launches 'dieselgate' case against Volkswagen Poland on Thursday launched legal action against Volkswagen Group Polska in connection with the emissions-cheating scandal involving its diesel cars.

The Polish UOKiK competition and consumer protection office said the group risked "a fine in the amount of up to ten percent" of its turnover in Poland for having misled consumers.

But the office also said in a statement published on its website that it could "refrain from imposing a fine" should VW commit to taking "steps to remedy the effects of the infringement which have a detrimental effect on consumers."

Port of Antwerp Confirms Record Annual Haul The Port of Antwerp closed 2016 with a record freight volume of 214,057,529 tonnes in 2016, up 2.7% on the previous year, mainly driven by containerized and liquid cargo volumes.

The container segment experienced strong growth both in tonnes and in the number of containers, the port authority said. In terms of TEU, the number of containers handled last year rose by 4% and reached 10,037,318 TEU, the first time ever that TEU numbers surpassed the 10 million mark at the port.

P&O Ferries sees record yearly freight volume at Zeebrugge Hub Pan-European ferry operator P&O Ferries handled more freight units at its Zeebrugge hub during 2016 than in any year since it began operations from the Belgian port in 1966, due to the “continuing strength of exports to and from Britain”.

The company saw 420,000 freight units at Zeebrugge in 2016, surpassing the previous record of 398,650 units, which was set in 2015.
