Maciej Matczak

Professor, Gdynia Maritime University

Maciej Daniel Matczak (PhD, DSc), professor at Gdynia Maritime University, expert, manager, and analyst dealing with the seaport’s economics, management and development, shipping, and logistics as well as international trade and global economy. His professional career began as a Development Specialist at the Port of Gdansk Authority. Then he moved to the Gdynia Maritime University, where he held the position of Vice-Dean for Cooperation and Development and Deputy Head of the Department of Logistics and Transport Systems. Combined his duties with the work of Senior Consultant and then Head of the Consulting Department at Actia Forum in Gdynia. In 2019, he was appointed Director of the Maritime Institute, a leading national research center dealing with environmental research for the offshore wind energy sector. In 2023 he became the Director of Research and Development at the Polish Register of Shipping. Over ten years of experience in managerial positions have allowed him to acquire competence in managing teams and organizations. Currently, is devoted to research and scientific work as associate professor. He initiated, created, and implemented development and research projects, at the same time building his own scientific achievements. Author of scientific publications, reports and market expertise for transport, logistics and energy sectors. Evaluator of the national and European (TEN-T, CEF, Horizon) R&D projects. His main scientific interests focus on the evolution of competitive structures in transport markets. Today, he conducted research on sectoral policies and development processes, including digitalization, decarbonization and energy transition in seaports and shipping. He is also interested in the economic and market relationships and interactions between stakeholders in the maritime sector, including seaports, shipping, shipyards and the offshore wind energy industry. Deals with market forecasting, which is particularly important in large infrastructure investment projects.
